Lyme Park

Lyme Park is a mansion house surrounded by formal gardens and a deer park, managed by the National Trust. The estate was given to the Legh family by King Richard II in 1398, however it is most famous for being the home of Thomas Legh. He explored Greece, Egypt, and Petra, bringing home antiquities that are today housed both here and at the British Museum.

In the grounds there is a tower called The Cage. It was originally a hunting lodge and was later used as a park-keeper’s cottage and as a lock-up for prisoners. Now however you can get amazing views over to Manchester and you can see the skyscrapers in the background.
